When confusion clouds the mind, and the heart feels heavy, chanting the holy names of Krishna as described by Srila Prabhupada is the most powerful medicine. It is not just a ritual, but a divine connection. A lifeline.
“Chanting the Hare Krishna mantra is not a physical sound vibration. It is spiritual, and it acts immediately.”
This one instruction to chant sincerely, attentively, and regularly has helped countless souls:
Find peace during suffering
Make difficult life decisions
Overcome anxiety and depression
Give up resentment
Be mindful of Krishna in the material world
Other invaluable instructions that uplift during difficulties
While chanting remains central, here are some other powerful instructions from Srila Prabhupada that devotees often remember when life gets tough:
- “Do your duty for Krishna, and don’t worry about the result.”
Inspired by Bhagavad-gita 2.47, this teaching helps to dispel anxiety. We do our work, Krishna handles the results.
- “This, too, shall pass.”
Srila Prabhupada reminded us that every material thing is temporary. Even suffering. Knowing this helps us to be patient and focus on our eternal relationship with Krishna.
- “Never leave the association of devotees.”
Even when we are tempted to isolate ourselves, remembering this instruction brings us back to the Sangha – the source of strength, encouragement, and guidance.
- “The Srimad Bhagavatam is the light in the darkness.”
In moments of confusion, opening the Bhagavatam is like opening a window to the spiritual world. Srila Prabhupada’s teachings become our personal conversation with a divine guide.
A personal note
In my most difficult times, the instruction I followed was:
“Just keep chanting, and never give up.”
Sometimes I couldn’t chant perfectly. Sometimes my faith wavered. But I remembered his instruction, and I tried. I held my japa beads even with tears in my eyes. And slowly, things changed – not outside, but inside.
On this Vyasa Puja, let us ask ourselves:
🕉️ Which instruction of Srila Prabhupada saved you?
🌸 Which quote gave you clarity when everything seemed lost?
🙏 Which words lifted your heart out of despair?
Srila Prabhupada, thank you for giving us strength when we had nothing, for giving us shelter when we had nowhere else to go. You are the voice in the storm, the compass in the chaos. We will always be indebted to you.
