Description
The first draft of The Hare Krishna Explosion was written in July 1969 just after Srila Prabhupada’s first visit to New Vrindavan. At that time Hayagriva realized that the details of the beginnings of the Krishna Consciousness Movement had best be recorded when the events were still fresh. Working from notebooks, diaries and memories he compiled the first edition in a month. Then the manuscript remained packed away until Srila Prabhupada left the mortal world in 1977.
Hayagriva finally published the book in 1986 through New Vrindavan’s Palace Press and has been out of print for nearly 15 years now. Fortunately it is now back in print and thus we are happy to present this to our dear customers, who have never had the chance to get such a first hand experience of the early years of Krishna Consciousness in the West.
Srila Prabhupada visited Germany twice, in September, 1969, and June, 1974. At other times his German disciples met him in Paris, Amsterdam, London and Stockholm. This book, lavish with rare and historic photos, tells of their meetings and interweaves personal descriptions of the spiritual quests of his early followers: their coming to Krsna consciousness, the austerity of the temples, and the struggles of the fledgling movement in its pioneering years. Parts of the story are told by Bhakti-caru Swami, Krsna-ksetra dasa, Manidhara dasa, Gangadhara dasa, Prthu dasa, Hari-sauri dasa, Cakravarti dasa, Rambhoru dasi, etc.
